Firm History

Founded in October of 1996, McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff became the largest intellectual property start-up firm in history.

One year after opening their doors, MBHB had established itself as one of the top ten patent boutique firms in Chicago. With a focus of doing extremely sophisticated work, founding partner, John J. McDonnell Ph.D., declared the firm’s mission statement to be “[We are] here to serve the client.” That mission still applies 25 years later.

MBHB attorneys and professionals are impassioned with a love of intellectual property law and thrive on the diversity of our clients’ portfolios. We remain committed to a true team-based culture and a client-focused work ethic.
