MATTER Workshop: Patents 101 – What Every Startup Needs to Know
Patents matter to startups because they help attract investor financing, increase a startup’s leverage with strategic partners, and may deter lawsuits. However, the process of securing patents can be challenging because of the enormous investment of time, money, and expertise required to prepare a patent application and nurture it through the examination process at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
