Patent or Trade Secret: Which IP Strategy to Use?

MBHB attorneys Joseph Herndon and Joshua Rich are set to participate on behalf of the firm as featured presenters for a presentation entitled, “Patent or Trade Secret: Which IP Strategy to Use?” that is set for February 22, 2019 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in Durham, NC. It is being held in conjunction with the 2019 IPPulooza conducted by the Research Triangle Area Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel (RTAC-ACC). The presentation will address key issues facing businesses and inventors in our post-AIA (America Invents Act) and DTSA (Defend Trade Secrets Act) world. They will provide guidance on when you should seek patent protection, and when you should consider maintaining technology as a trade secret. In particular, they will address:

Issues involved in patent protection;

Issues involved in trade secret protection;

How to choose between patenting and keeping secrets; and

Impact of the DTSA IP valuation for patents and trade secrets. 

The Research Triangle Area Chapter of ACC serves more than 450 members in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill and surrounding areas in North Carolina, including all of eastern North Carolina. The chapter provides a wide range of educational programs on topics relevant to in-house law practice such as crisis management, managing outside counsel, contracts 101, and intellectual property competitive intelligence.
