MATTER Workshop: IP Basics for Entrepreneurs

Intellectual property (IP) matters to new ventures because it can increase a startup’s valuation, attract inventor financing, provide leverage with strategic partners, and help startups enhance their brand and marketing efforts. However, recognizing and protecting IP can be challenging to startups because it is often overlooked and once identified it can require time, money, and expertise to protect the IP, if it is even possible at all. This clinic will help startups understand types of IP and how IP can be protected. Dr. Emily Miao will provide an overview of IP basics as well as discuss basic ways that startups can identify and protect their IP assets and avoid common pitfalls.
