MBHB Celebrates Black History Month: Inventor Kizzmekia Corbett

McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP is proud to celebrate Black History Month in recognition of it as an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans in spotlighting their critical role in U.S. history. In this regard, we are highlighting noteworthy African American inventors whose creations changed the world.

Kizzmekia Corbett is a viral immunologist at the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health (NIAID NIH). Dr. Corbett is one of the scientists who in early 2020 helped to develop an mRNA-based vaccine for COVID-19 that was developed in collaboration with the biotech firm Moderna. The vaccine is now being distributed across the United States and elsewhere. Dr. Corbett has filed several patent applications.
